Mental Health is a Human Right

The  Kenya  National Commission on Human Rights takes cognizance and highly acknowledges the contents of  this aptly titled report;  ‘The Many Faces of Mental Health in Kenya’ . The Commission through its Research, Advocacy and Outreach Directorate and in particular the Division of Research and Compliance undertook  the review of the Mental Health (Amendment) Bill  spearheaded by Hon. Senator Sylvia Mueni Kasanga together with organisations that focus on mental health.  The Commission hosted the validation of this report at its offices on 26th September, 2019  which was closely followed by its launch. More still remains to be done as the Mental Health (Amendment) Bill now goes through the National Assembly process of final approval. In this report, the Commission is  well acknowledged and profiled.  Dr. Elizabeth Kamundia, the Assistant Director in Research & Compliance Division and the focal point officer on disability has penned an expert feature write-up on page 41.
