Reforms in Places of Detention

Protecting And Promoting The Rights Of Persons Deprived Of Their Liberty

The Commission is mandated under Section 59 (1)(d) of Constitution of Kenya to visit prisons and places of detention or related facilities with a view to assessing and inspecting the conditions under which the inmates are held and make recommendations thereon. The Commission regularly visits prisons and places of detention to establish the state of human rights and routinely makes recommendations to the heads of the institutions, the Kenya Prisons headquarters and to the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to Implement.
