KNCHR – UNHCR IDP Monitoring Project
Goal
The overall goal of the subproject is to strengthen the work of the Protection Working Group on Internal Displacement (PWGID) work through enhanced protection monitoring, coordination, advocacy and capacity building with a view of achieving durable solutions to displacement problems in Kenya. The main objectives are to advocate for the rights of IDPs (women, girls, boys and men) before, during, and after displacement. To provide protection for the rights of affected women, girls, boys and men in communities through various measures including, the adoption and subsequent implementation of policies and international and regional obligations. As well as ensure Protection working group members at the national and field level, including national institutional leadership, have enhanced capacity to carry out advocacy initiatives, coordinate activities, monitor and share information
Key Activities
IDP protection monitoring through 25 field based IDP monitors.
Hosting and coordinating the National Protection Working Group and coordinating field based protection working groups in consultation with chairs of the field PWG.
Capacity building and planning workshops for PWGID members 2 one day work-shops for PWG members (Eldoret and Nakuru) on basic international law standards related to IDPs and for development of their work-plans for the year.
Capacity building for state and non-state actors on national, regional and international standards relating to IDPs
Lobbying and advocacy forums with relevant line ministries, parliament and donor groups.
Conducting joint participatory assessment.
Printing and dissemination of popular version of draft national policy on IDPs.
